Dreamland Safari Tours calls this the Magic Mushroom Tour, and it’s a wonderfully strange corner of Grand Staircase-Escalante. One of our favorite ways to experience the Colorado River. Cave Lakes Canyon is a beautiful private canyon just north of Kanab, and horseback is such a fitting way to see it. ROAM’s 1.5-hour guided ride winds through pasture and meadows beneath the red sandstone walls, passing some of the small lakes tucked into the canyon along the way. We’ve done this one ourselves and it’s seriously fun. A via ferrata is a protected climbing route where you’re harnessed in and climb the red rock using fixed rungs and cables. ROAM’s route takes you up the walls of Cave Lakes Canyon, then finishes with a 180-foot rappel back down. There aren’t many via ferratas around here, which makes this one pretty special.
